CAKE SMASH FAQS
WHERE DO SESSIONS USUALLY TAKE PLACE?
All cake smash sessions take place in my studio, located close to Oldham Town Centre. I don't currently offer mobile sessions due to the amount of equipment involved in the sessions.
HOW LONG DO SESSIONS TAKE?
The sessions can vary, depending on how comfortable your baby is once you arrive at the studio. On average, a session will take 45 minutes. (30 minutes smash, and 15 minutes splash in the tub.) Sometimes babies need a little more coaxing to come out of their shell, so I always allow up to 1.5 hours for the session. This helps to keep things calm, relaxed and with no pressure for your baby to instantly perform for the camera, if they are feeling a little shy. It isn't always necessary to spend this long, and once we have plenty of smash pictures to choose from I will set up the tub. I only do a maximum of 15 minutes in the tub as the water cools down quickly and I wouldn't want your baby to get cold.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE SESSION?
As my sessions are all-inclusive, there isn't much you need to bring. It's important to bring a drink for your little one, to wash the cake down. I ask parents to bring their babies own bubble bath from home for the splash session, to avoid any skin irritations. A big towel is also needed for after the splash part of the session. It's recommended that parents wear old clothes as during the session you may be assisting your baby and can get a little messy. If you'd like to bring a change of clothes for yourself, you are welcome to.
WHAT IF MY BABY HAS ALLERGIES?
I work very closely with local baker Rachel from Corner House Cakes. When the session is booked you will be given a questionnaire to fill in, which will ask if your baby has any allergies/ intolerances. Cakes can be baked to suit a range of allergies and intolerances.
SHOULD I FEED MY BABY BEFORE THE SESSION?
Yes, absolutely! Some parents think that the baby needs to be hungry to interact with the cake, however this is not the case. If your baby is due a meal and feels hungry, the chances are they will be cranky and not want to participate. The majority of babies don't actually eat much of the cake, it's more a "messy play" activity for them.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?
I would recommend to book when your baby is approximately 10 months old. Weekend sessions fill up fast, however if you are able to do a midweek session there is generally more availability. I can occasionally take last minute bookings, however there is a lot to organise with a cake smash and my baker needs notice with regards to ordering your smash cake. The sooner you book the better, to guarantee a slot on your preferred date.
WHEN DO I GET MY PICTURES?
At the end of your session, an appointment will be made for you to come and view your images and choose your package. This appointment is generally 1-2 weeks after your session, to give me time to re-touch all of the images. Once you have chosen your package and which images to include, I will order your prints from the print lab and add your digitals to your USB. The prints and USB are usually ready to collect within a couple of days from your viewing appointment. Local delivery is available for these, or you can collect from the studio.
