NEWBORN SESSION STYLING
It''s really important to me that parents have lots of input when it comes to the styling of their session. In order to make the most of the session time, I have created this page to showcase what is on offer in the studio for your session. When you book your session, you will be sent a styling questionnaire which is your opportunity to tell me what you like and don't like! If you use this page as a reference when completing the questionnaire, together we can create some beautifully unique and personal set ups for your baby!
All newborn sessions start on the beanbag. This is where we get babies settled, comfortable and all curled up in a variety of different positions. They can be naked, wear one of my little outfits, be swaddled or have a fabric draped over them loosely. They can wear a hat or headband, or neither if that's preffered. I ask parents to choose from one of my lovely fabric backdrops below, which gives me a great starting point when styling your session.
WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
All sessions take place in my relaxing, purpose designed studio not far from Oldham town centre. Sessions are only done here as I have professional studio lighting and an abundance of props that would make travelling too tricky.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?
For a newborn session, it is best to book at some point between your 12 and 20 week scan. I can only take so many newborn sessions per month due to the unpredictability of when babies arrive, so the sooner you book the better to guarantee a slot. I try my best to accommodate last minute bookings once babies have already arrived, but this isn't always possible and I hate turning people away so please get in touch ASAP! Sessions are booked provisionally for your due date, and once baby has arrived we will schedule an appointment.
HOW LONG DO SESSIONS TAKE?
There is no set answer to this question. As a general rule, I block out 4 hours for a newborn session. It doesn't always take this long, however the sessions are completely baby led. Sessions run calmly, slowly, and peacefully to create the most relaxing atmosphere. I cannot make babies do something they don't want to do, so we need to take the time to ensure baby is full, comfortable and content before each different set up. I will not rush through the session, as this will upset baby and not produce the best results. It is best that you don't make any other plans for after your session, incase we do run over.
WHO CAN COME TO THE SESSION?
I usually recommend that no more than 2 adults attend the session, ideally mum and dad. This is to avoid the studio feeling crowded and less peaceful. Siblings are welcome to attend, however it's important to note that due to the length of the sessions, younger children can become restless and disruptive so you may wish to arrange childcare for them. If siblings are having some shots with your new baby, we can do these at the start so they can then be taken to a relatives house/ home with dad for the main duration of the newborn session.
HOW CAN I PREPARE MY BABY FOR THE PHOTOSHOOT?
For the best results during the session, babies need to be sleepy. I ask that during the morning before your session, if you try your best to keep baby as awake as possible with lots of interaction and stimulation, to ensure that they are ready for a nice long sleep when they arrive at the studio. I will send out a full newborn prep guide once your session has been booked, with additional information for on the day.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE SESSION?
You do not need to bring any outfits for your baby to wear during their session. Typical newborn outfits don't work as well in pictures, professional photoshoot outfits and wraps work much better and help to create a better overall picture. I have an extensive collection of outfits, fabrics and wraps to be used throughout your session.
